Ron I have an old Winchester 1906 pump action 22 in not so good condition but has great sentimental value to the family.I am toying with the idea of having it restored and pass on to my son. How is the availability of parts for this model or would it be a case of getting parts custom made or sourced from overseas. I have had a number of guns custom made when I was much younger so I am aware of the costs it could occur-is it a possibility or just enjoy it as it is. Great web site . Cheers Bob

Dear Bob
If you re-finnish your winchester 1906 as a collectors item it will be almost worth less. Collectors only want thim in their original condition. It is totaly unlike the vintage car scene. The best advice is to get the finest wire wool as possible, like very fine hair. Use some Gunshiner to soak the wire wool and ccarefully clean the marks and gung off the wood work. Hopefully all splits and cracks have been repaired with 24 hour araldite prior to this. Then when its clean and the Gunshiner has clouded like a polish buff up with a clean wad of flannelette. Use a thick gun oile like Whitworth gun oil on the steel work and soak it for a few days then wipe it off with clean flannelette. If there is some rust that does not come off, soak for a few days longer in the oil and then witht he very fine wire wool just wipe it off and then apply another coat wait a few days and repeat until the original patina returns. If you need parts buy another one the same model, and use the best in your favorite one. Rebluing is a last resort for something old but if you feel that its a must drop it in and we will give you a quote. Most of the cost is in polishing out the rust and pitting. Remeber once this is done it is not the same rifle you have the affection for. Hope this helps . Ron
