Owen Guns ALERT Bulletin Edition 96 September 2014
URGENT EMERGENCY ACTION REQUESTED.
Shooter’s Need Places To Shoot.
ATTENTION ALERT SHOOTERS NEED YOUR ASSISTANCE FOR NEW COMBINED MULTI DISCIPLE SHOOTING FACILITY IN GYMPIE.
In Gympie 20 years ago the State put a railway line through the safety zone of the 900 yard Centre fire Rifle Range, it had been in use since 1912. After four feasibility Studies, Applications, Negotiations, Trial, Tribulations and Appeals we have had a written agreement in principle with qualifications giving Gympie Regional Council the power to go ahead with this site, or not. We have just recently sent in an Parliamentary E. Petition with 851 signatures and a paper Petition with a further 463 signatures.
This has caused Cooloola Trail Care Alliance to claim this site for bushwalking, and bicycle riding. As two Council staff are part of the 20 member Cooloola Trail Care Alliance, they have instigated Council to prepare and endorse a Tracks and Trail Plan that puts their trails through our planned shooting range templates. Council has done this without consulting with the Cooloola Range Complex Association, or any other non green group and has now just opened a small window for public comment just until the 5th October 2014. Purposely, to engineer no other responses. This action, unless we quickly respond with hundreds of objections, will allow them to steal this land, seal it shut from our future shooting venue, which includes a 1000 m rifle range, 200 and 300 Pistol Club, 15 trap lay outs and Silhouette and Sporting Clays facility. Please help and send in and as many email submissions you can muster, even your family and friends to:-

SUBMISSION to Draft Track and Trails Plan
When the Gympie Shooting Facility is operational I wish to compete in championship events, sight my firearms, work up my loads, fore fill my legal obligations to retain my firearms, or enjoy recreational shooting at this site.
The advert in the Gympie Times states that the Gympie Regional Council has recently endorsed the Draft Tracks and Trail Plan Page 37, “Note that proposed shooting complex to be located elsewhere.”
Page 58, Appendix 1, “future relocation of Shooters Range to be considered.” These and other statements lead us to believe that the Gympie Regional Council have already determined to locate the shooting complex ‘elsewhere’. However there has been no consultation with the affected stakeholders such as the Cooloola Range Complex Association that has been working to acquire this site for a shooting range for 14 years.
Recreational shooting attracts large economic benefits to the region, accommodation, fuel, shooting competitor and their families also sight see, however unlike the tracks and trails there are only limited suitable areas to undertake a range complex where in the Cooloola Region 49% of the area is available public land.
The draft report identifies numerous possible areas for trail projects and no compelling case, or reasons have been made for specifically including Block 2 Corella State Forest when the region has many other areas to develop tracks and trails throughout. Therefore, the proposed shooting complex at the southern side of Wood Rd Corella Forest should be excluded from any further consideration within this Track and Trails Plan.
Yours (Fred Nerk)

Queensland Big Boar Hunting Championships
2014 Gympie, $20,000. worth of Prizes for Biggest Pig, Largest Tusk, Longest Tail, Largest Pigs Ear, the most pigs by weight, Single and Two person Team prizes.
The Firearm Trade and many local businesses have donated over $20,000. of prizes for this event. This event is very important for three reasons, One to relieve the pressure of Feral Pigs on Queensland’s Primary Producers, Two to Raise much Money for The Wandering Warriors, SAS (Queensland) for Veterans and their families, Three and not the least is to prove to the State Government that Recreational Hunting can solve their problems with Feral animals and so open Queensland Public Land to Hunting. We have to show the government of Queensland that Victoria (who assesses the interstate income from Hunting at $430 million a year) and NSW are not wrong. That Queensland can benefit greatly. To do this we need thousands of Hunters nominating from all over our State and we need many hundreds of Feral Pigs at the weigh in to claim their prizes. Help us open the door for hunting on public land. Hunt Feral Pigs on any land where you have permission to hunt. “It’s a week since I received a copy of “Range Officers Hand Book” and since that time I am nearly at the half way mark. I’m amazed at the at the number of subjects you have covered making it one of the most informative books to be added to my collection. It must have taken you a considerable amount of time and experience to publish the book with information not available in other popular Gunsmith manuals. I would recommend the book to “Range Officers” and anyone interested in the sport of target shooting and hunting.” Regards Gene M Cornford P.O.Box 288, Kaeo 0448 N.Z. Firearms Gunsmith, Dip M.G.S +Member of American Gunsmithing Assoc.
